Child & Family Enrichment

There are few age barriers in the wonderful, lifesaving sport of swimming. Students participating in lessons at Emler can be as young as six months. The Waterbaby classes at Emler involve the gentle support of the parents in classes of games, songs and loving swimming techniques.

Child Safety Organizations

The International Association for Child Safety (IACS) is a non-profit organization formed in 1997 to promote safety awareness and injury prevention for children. Its membership includes safety professionals across the United States, Canada and Europe whose business it is to childproof homes.

The National SAFE KIDS Campaign is the first and only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury — the number one killer of children ages 14 and under.

SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A. is the national non-profit organization dedicated to child passenger safety.

The National Child Passenger Safety Board has been established to provide program direction and technical guidance to states, communities and organizations as a means to maintain a credible, standardized child passenger training and certification program.

Government Agencies

Official web site of the US Department of Homeland Security. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against America on September 11th, 2001, President George W. Bush decided 22 previously disparate domestic agencies needed to be coordinated into one department to protect the nation against threats to the homeland.

Official web site of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Formerly an independent agency FEMA became part of the new Department of Homeland Security in March 2003. The agency- is tasked with responding to, planning for, recovering from and mitigating against disasters.

The National Safety Council is the nation's leading advocate for safety and health. Their mission is "to educate and influence society to adopt safety, health and environmental policies, practices and procedures that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic losses arising from preventable causes."

TDH partners with the people and communities of Texas to protect, promote, and improve health.

CPSC is an Independent Federal Regulatory Agency. CPSC works to save lives and keep families safe by reducing the risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products.

Health & Safety Reference

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and its member pediatricians dedicate their efforts and resources to the health, safety and well-being of all infants, children, adolescents and young adults. The AAP has 57,000 members in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Members include pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists.

Stay-at-home Dads Resources

Their mission: building a network of fun, fathering and friendships for the stay-at-home dad and their families while promoting a greater awareness of this family option within the community. Formed in August of 1998 as an outgrowth of the DFW At-Home Dads Network to better serve the concentration of stay at home dads residing in the far North Dallas corridor. However, the membership has grown dramatically from the initial core group to welcome over one-hundred dads and their families from cities across the Dallas Metroplex.

The At-Home Dad Network is a loose-knit grassroots organization for primary care dads who want to start up or join any activity to help connect at-home dads. Since 1994 we have connected and promoted home-based fathers across the country and around the world.

DAD-to-DAD was started in January, 1995 to provide an opportunity for at-home fathers to get together, share information, and receive positive reinforcement through children’s play groups, dad’s-night-out dinners and newsletters.
